I tried sooo hard to have a green thumb in NYC. Like, so hard. No matter what I did, I could not keep anything alive, not even succulents (although tbh, I find those the hardest to keep alive). So when I moved to Nashville, I was pretty determined to change this.
Now, I’m happy to report that I’m the proud momma of over 10 little plant babies. Now, they definitely keep me on my toes (is that sunburn or have I overwatered???) and we’ve had a few casualties (RIP Gwen), but it’s been so rewarding having them around. For some reason they cheer me up instantly (*cringy I know), but I feel like other plant parents can back me up on this!
So now, without further ado, here are some of the best local plant shops in and around Nashville. I prefer to buy my plants/pots from local small businesses if I can and I encourage you to do so as well! If you’re in the area, check out these great shops and nurseries!
Flora Plant Shop
This little gem resides in East Nashville and is one of my favorites to visit! The staff is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and willing to answer my 50 questions I always ask before buying a plant. Some examples: how much water? how much light? what if it turns yellow? can I re-pot now? when was this watered last? (justttt to name a few – yikes)
This cute shop is well stocked on most of the well-known plants and even a few I hadn’t heard of before. They also have a small selection of pots and will even re-pot your new plant for free! Honestly, I feel like I don’t re-pot very well, so this is much appreciated.
Next time you’re in East or want a new plant, you need to check out Flora!
Bates Nursery & Garden Center
I haven’t been to this nursery yet, but a coworker recommended it to me and now I’m dying to go check it out! Located in North Nashville, it looks like it has everything a plant lover needs! In addition to indoor plants, Bates also has all of your outdoor needs covered as well. Looking forward to checking this nursery out! See more here!
Lawrence & Clark Cacti Co.
Lawrence & Clark has been on my list since I moved here last year…. why haven’t I visited yet?? Well… life, but also Covid. I plan on making a trip out to Old Hickory soon, just so I can bask in the atmosphere that L&C has created. They have a variety of indoor plants with a heavy focus on cacti and succulents! And from their instagram stories, it looks like they have quite a few plants I’ve never even heard of! They also show off new plants and promote flash sales in their stories – they’re worth the follow! See here!

Gardens of Babylon
This nursery is located at the Nashville Farmer’s Market and wow, is she stunning (*swoon). The moment you walk through the gate you know something special is waiting for you. There’s a large variety of outdoor plants along with two greenhouses full of indoor plants. No shortage of potential plant babies here! Babylon also has a large selection of pots and any other accessories needed to keep them happy and healthy.
Hewitt Garden & Design Center
This place has also been on my list since first moving here and I’m so excited to have visited this past weekend! And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! So many greenhouses, so many corners filled with plants. Indoor and outdoor, there are plants everywhere! I can only imagine what this place looks like in the spring – I’m sure there are gorgeous blooms wherever you look!
I went with a few plant loving friends and we all walked away extremely happy! Located in Franklin, it’s a short drive out of the city and well worth it! See more here!
Yarrow Acres
This cutie little shop is located on Main Street in Franklin. I always say that if I opened a plant shop, it would be similar to this one. It’s small, but overflowing with plants, pots, books and cute decorations! This is where I bought my first two plants after moving to Nashville (ahh the memories) and have gone back several times after. I love this little shop and its charm! When you’re walking around Downtown Franklin, make sure to stop in and say “Hi”! Check out more here!
Thank you for checking out my favorite plant shops! I hope you find your next favorite plant at one of these shops! ( and let’s be real, we all have favorites…)
xoxo,
Katelynn Ann
As a fellow plant mom, I can say that my plants bring me instant joy too.
