Bows & Barrettes Galore

I’ve been so into hair accessories lately -their revival has been so much fun! Back in high school/college, I was BIG into statement headbands. I mean realllly into them. I had crazy colors with bows and flowers. Some were studded, some, I’m sure, were covered in sparkles. I was determined to be the Midwestern Blair Waldorf. I went so crazy with them, that I never thought I’d want to touch a headband again.

Well, it’s been a few years (fine, more than a few) and I’m happy to report that I’m all in again! Only this time, I’ve expanded past over-the-top headbands. That’s right, I’m into it all – headbands, bows, barrettes- you name it! I’m seriously crushing and honestly, you should be too.

1. Headbands

Not just any kind of headband… thankfully I’ve left the cheesy, garish ones behind. This go around, I’m all about velvet. These headbands are definitely a statement, but I feel they give a classic vibe when they’re in this luxe fabric. First trend I’ve been seeing is the knot. It has a turban feel and is pretty easy to wear. This is more casual and can be worn with oversized sweaters on the weekend. It’s just enough glam to make me feel like I sort of have my life together (even if I’ve spent the last two days living in a sweatshirt). The second trend I’ve seen is the statement headband. I love this as a braid – it’s almost like wearing a crown. Definitely be ready to turn heads wearing this style – it’s bold!

I DIY’d these headbands, but if you’re not feeling crafty, check out the below options!

2. Bows

Hair bows can sometimes feel too young if worn with super girly outfits. It’s important to balance the girly bow with something a little more edgy or masculine. I love pairing this accessory with something unexpected like a vintage tee or blazer. If you are going for a sweeter look, try a velvet bow barrette. The structured shape lends itself to feminine outfits. For an edgier, undone look, try a ribbon tied in a loose bow. I’d recommend keeping your hair casual – the messier the better!

Once again, I DIY’d these, but check out the below options as well!

3. Barrettes

Last category – barrettes! This accessory is having a lot of fun right now. They come in a variety of shapes, finishes, sizes, etc. I’m really into the revival of pearls and how cute they look clustered onto a large clip or barrette. It’s easy to throw this clip in your hair to dress up a casual outfit. It’s also a great addition to a date night outfit. Just be careful again of going too girly… sometimes it can translate as too young! Large, bold resin barrettes are also so trendy right now. I love wearing two at once, but even one at a time makes a statement.

Both of my clips are from The New Icon. They’re great quality and very fun! There are so many barrettes out there, so I’ve chosen a few of my favorite below!

This trend is so fun to explore – have you tried any fun hair accessories lately? Once again, I’ve jumped straight into the deep end. I feel like I’m ordering/DIYing a new hair accessory every week! I would love see how you’re wearing them this season. Let me know below in the comments!

As always, thank you for reading and keep exploring!

xoxo,

Katelynn
