Back to Basics

The word “basic” these days has taken on a different meaning. However, in regards to your wardrobe, it’s important to have a few “basics” on hand. One of the most versatile basics (IMHO) is the white button up shirt. In fact, I’d suggest having a classic version, an oversized version and an edgy version if you can. But even if you just own the classic, the options are endless.

Here are some my favorite ways to style a white button up!

1. Cute & casual – Throw on that basic button up with some denim cut-offs, cute sandals and a straw bag. If you have a classic fit, tuck in one of the sides to define your waist. If you have an oversized shirt, let it hang loose. It’ll look like you’re wearing a dress, but you’ll have your shorts as coverage. Chic, easy and perfect for brunch with the ladies or walking around the city!

2. Business casual – Throw on those boyfriend jeans and tie your button up at your waist. I’ve been loving the 90’s inspired square-toed strappy sandals lately and I think they elevate the outfit. Complete the look with a hair scarf and dainty gold jewelry. Accessories are important – don’t forget them!

3. Satin w/ a twist – Turn that slip dress into a slip skirt! Or, better yet, pair it with a slip skirt, if you have it. I like the fact that I can knot my shirt higher with a dress and my stomach is still covered (this makes it appropriate for work too). I went ahead and tucked up the back of the shirt as well to make it clean all around. Throw on some nude heels, a statement necklace and you’re good-to-go! It’s an easy way to incorporate the slip dress trend into your everyday wardrobe!

4. Sporty, glam vibes – This is probably the most “out there” styling for me, but I love it. I recently bought a powder blue suit and cannot wait to style it for the real world. Knot your shirt or you can half tuck it here. (I knotted bc my pants are so flowy.) I threw on a ton of chain necklaces (to give it a little edge), my white chunky sneakers and grabbed my white chain purse. She’s a fun look!
